'to disappear'

Uncle of Picabia mentioned to him once that photography means the end of painting. Picabia was so taken with this that he forbid him to take any of his portraits.

The work is a paraphrase of the conflict between photography and painting, where the image is revealed as ephemeral.

In a painted room every 15 seconds flash captures for a moment a shadow of the audience moving around the hall. What is more, the visitors, in addition to their primary role of the recipient of art, become also a co-author of an art object. The undertaken problem of a temporary commemoration relates to existentially marked questions about a human being, physical existence, and finally the disappearance, when after the momentary perpetuated sign, it dissipates, leaving space to the next entities.

Installation realized during Jura-Paris Road Trip Anniversary, which took place on 5th-7th October 2012 in Jura, France.
Unicell Poland, owner of Primacol brand, manufacturer of Neon paint helped to create the installation 'to disappear'.

Niegdyś wujek Picabii wspomniał mu o tym, że fotografia zwiastuje koniec malarstwa. To stwierdzenie tak poruszyło Picabię, że zakazał mu od tej pory robienia sobie jakichkolwiek portretów.

Praca jest parafrazą konfliktu pomiędzy fotografią a malarstwem, gdzie obraz jest ukazany jako efemeryczny

W pomalowanym pomieszczeniu co 15 sekund lampa błyskowa utrwala na moment cień przemieszczającego się w obrębie sali widza. Zwiedzający, prócz swej podstawowej roli odbiorcy sztuki, staje się współtwórcą obiektu artystycznego. Podejmowany tutaj problem chwilowego upamiętnienia odnosi się do nacechowanych egzystencjalnie pytań o istnienie, fizyczną obecność, wreszcie o znikanie, kiedy po chwilowym zaznaczeniu swego śladu, rozprasza się zostawiając miejsce kolejnym istnieniom.

Instalacja zrealizowana w ramach Jura-Paris Road Trip Anniversary, który odbył się w dn. 5-7 października 2012 r. w Jurze we Francji.
Instalację 'znikać' pomogła zrealizować firma Unicell Poland, właściciel marki Primacol, producent farby fosforescencyjnej Neon.

Digitally generated and virtually soulless piece has its roots in mathematical theories that represent natural phenomena. On the other hand detail is the record of process that results from physical character of used material and tool. Populations were created inside Petri dishes – a laboratory glassware, which is used to culture microorganisms.
